STOP Trying to Make It Happen: Be Still and Trust God’s Timing
Sometimes, life feels like a race against the clock. We’re hustling, striving, and pushing, trying to make everything happen right now. It’s as if we believe that if we just work harder, think smarter, or pray louder, the pieces will magically fall into place. But the truth is, no matter how much we try to control things, some doors won’t open until the time is right—and guess what? God is the keeper of that clock.
Let’s talk about stillness.
Not the “I’m giving up” kind of stillness, but the kind of sacred stillness that says, “I trust You, God.” It’s the pause where we surrender the urge to force the outcome and lean into His plan instead of our own. This is hard, especially when we’re used to being the ones who handle things, but stillness doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means actively waiting.
Why We Struggle with God’s Timing
Here’s the thing about us humans: we like control. We want to plan, predict, and execute. When things don’t happen on our schedule, doubt creeps in. Did I do something wrong? Is God even listening? Spoiler alert: He is. And His timing isn’t a reflection of your worth—it’s a reflection of His wisdom.
Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us:"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
God’s plans are far greater than our wildest dreams, and His timing is designed to align perfectly with His purpose for our lives. But here’s the catch—we have to stop trying to control the clock.
Be Still, But Don’t Be Idle
Being still doesn’t mean sitting on your hands and waiting for life to happen. It’s about shifting your focus from doing to trusting.
Pray: Instead of asking God to speed things up, ask Him to help you trust the process.
Prepare: Use this waiting season to grow. Read, learn, and develop the skills and mindset you’ll need for when the time comes.
Pause: Stop comparing your journey to someone else’s. Their season of harvest may be your season of planting, and that’s okay.
Remember, there’s no timeline for purpose. No rush for His blessings. And sometimes, the waiting isn’t about the outcome—it’s about who we become in the process.
When You Feel Like Giving Up
Maybe you’ve been praying for a breakthrough, working toward a goal, or waiting on a promise, and it feels like nothing is happening. You’re tired. Frustrated. Tempted to give up.
Here’s the encouragement you need: Don’t quit before the miracle happens. Trust that God is working behind the scenes, aligning people, opportunities, and resources you can’t even see yet. The Bible is full of stories of waiting—Abraham waited for Isaac, Joseph waited for freedom, and David waited to become king. But every single time, God showed up, right on time.
Psalm 46:10 says:"Be still, and know that I am God."
This isn’t just a nice verse for a coffee mug—it’s a life-changing promise. When you’re still, you’re not inactive; you’re actively putting your faith in the One who sees the end from the beginning.
Trust the Timing
So today, give yourself permission to stop forcing it. Let go of the anxiety, the overthinking, and the “what ifs.” Replace them with trust, patience, and peace.
When the time is right, you won’t have to force the door open—God will open it so wide you’ll wonder why you ever worried. Until then, keep your heart open, your faith strong, and your spirit still.
You don’t have to make it happen. God already has.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that Your timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with mine. Help me to be still, to trust You fully, and to find peace in the waiting. I surrender my plans to You and ask for patience as You prepare me for what’s ahead. Amen.
Go ahead, friend, and breathe. God’s got this—and He’s got you too. ❤️
